Education Today

From September 2008 all Early Years providers will be following the new Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which is a central part of the governments ten year childcare strategy.  The EYFS brings together the ‘Birth to Three Matters’ framework, ‘Curriculum Guidance for the Foundations Stage’ and the ‘National Standards for Under 8’s Daycare and Childminding’.

The aim is to provide a consistent approach to care and learning from birth to the end of the Foundation Stage. With a play-based approach the EYFS focuses on stages of development rather than chronological, age based teaching and learning.

The overarching aim of the EYFS is to help children achieve the Every Child Matters five outcomes:

1. Staying safe

2. Being healthy

3. Enjoying and achieving

4. Making a positive contribution

5. Achieving economic wellbeing

For further information and to see how every activity relates to the EYFS please speak to an ‘Auntie’.

Nursery Education Grant

In support of Pre-school education, the government provide a Nursery Education Grant. Four Oaks Pre-School playgroup is registered to receive the grant which available to all children from the term following their 3rd birthday.  Each child is entitled to 5 free sessions per week.  You do not have to apply to receive this grant but you will be asked to sign a form to confirm that Playgroup can claim the grant on your behalf.

Childcare Vouchers

Some employers offer staff a childcare voucher system where you can pay the first £243 of childcare cost from gross pay or by using salary sacrifice.  We currently accept Busy Bee vouchers and will certainly consider any other schemes.  Please speak to our Treasurer if you any enquiries.
