Activities

We have a wide range of varied activities which all fit in with the Early Years Foundation Stages Curriculum.  In pre-school every activity has an educational link from Playdough to strengthen children’s fingers in readiness for writing to Dressing up outfit which help stimulate the imagination and teach dressing and coordination skills.  Our outdoor area is accessible at all activity time so that the children can experience all types of weather conditions.

Fruit time

We ask that each child brings one piece of fruit (dried or fresh) or vegetable (only those that can be eaten raw please!) with them to share at Fruit time.  This helps keep playgroup costs down, promotes healthy eating and also gives the children an opportunity to try lots of different fruit and vegetable as they are more likely to try new foods if they see their peers eating them.

Letter of the week

Each week we have either a ‘colour’ or ‘letter’ of the week.  Children are encouraged to bring in an item relating to the activity and are given the opportunity to describe their item to all the children in playgroup. A collage is then displayed showing drawing relating to either the colour or letter.  Children are encouraged to say the letter and pronounce the letter phonetically, often looking in the mirror to ‘see’ how to say the letter correctly.  Our newsletter shows parents a list of ‘letter of week’ so that you can have fun with your child finding an item or picture for them to bring in.   Each activity helps prepare your child for transition to Four Oaks Primary School.
